Clyde Alden MacKenzie
1934-2021
MacKENZIE, Clyde Alden 87-
Dartmouth formerly of Canso. It is with profound sadness that we
announce the passing of an incredible, amazing, giant of a man, Clyde
Alden MacKenzie age 87 of Canso on Thursday, May 27th, 2021, in
Oakwood Terrance Nursing Home, Dartmouth. Born in Canso, he was a son
of the late Delbert and Cora (Bond) MacKenzie.
Papa joined his father fishing at a young age; but seeking
other opportunities, he completed his Advanced Diesel
Engineering Certification and also went on to become the lighthouse
operator on Country Island. But alas, the call to sea was too great.
He went back to fishing and continued as a fisherman until
retirement.
At times during the winter months, he would work at the local
fish plant where he delved out many a bear hugs, rib grabs,
“horse bites” to name a few antics to keep people “on
their toes”. His children/friends received many as well, but it
was all done in love. He enjoyed hobbies such as photography, bird
watching, gardening, astronomy, and his motorbike, but mostly teaching
his children/grandchildren all the do’s and don’ts about
life, the beauty, the dangers, the good, the bad. There were no
boundaries to Papa’s talents. Everything was done by hand; from making
the best pies, homemade bread and cinnamon rolls to building fully
functioning fishing boats; a box full of engine parts into a completed
functioning vehicle. He loved his community, the Tickle, and lived
there until joining Milford Haven Home for Special Care, later being
moved to Oakwood Terrace in Dartmouth to be closer to more family
members.
With a strong faith in the Lord, Papa was able to remain
strong in the face of adversity, of which there were many. He was an
essence, an exceptional man with exceptional talent; filled with
passion and determination to make his and our lives better through all
he did; a true beacon.
He was everything to us and will be greatly missed. Now with
his beloved Lord and Saviour, and loved ones who have gone before; he
is survived by his children, Alden (Donna), Becky (Norman), Gwen,
Kimberly, Wendy (Bob), Edward (Loretta); grandchildren, Michael, Nick,
AJ, Ashley, Amber, Kassi, Tiffany, Scott, Jennifer, Abbi;
great-grandchildren, Raven, Albert, Zach, MacKenzie, Aiden, Brock,
Zeela; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Predeceased by his parents, loving wife, Helena; daughter, Shelley;
brothers, Edward, Hughie, Bill, Gerald, Ernie, and Neil (in infancy);
sisters, Blanche, Phyllis, Rena.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to
Oakwood Terrace staff for their kindness and care given to
Papa.
Arrangements are under the care of Dennis Haverstock Funeral
