Val Monk

Obituary of Val Monk
Val was born in Killam on March 9, 1953 to Alice and Bill Monk, and passed away peacefully May 15, 2021 at the Killam Health Care Center.
Val attended school in Killam and then Sedgewick at Central High. However, his real education began at an early age on the farm north of Killam with his mother Alice. They spent many years milking cows and helping his uncles. Val always had a passion for horses. A wedding gift of a 3 month old stud colt started a 40 year journey with his wife Lori, where they built their registered quarter horse herd together. Val loved riding and breaking horses, as well as driving his heavy team for choring every day and giving sleigh rides. Val and his family spent many hours in the barn learning, working and growing together through life’s lessons. Val will be forever remembered and sadly missed. Val is survived by the love of his life Lori, his daughter Tammy (Curtis) and their daughter Sidney, his son Dallas (Lindsay) and their daughters Morleigh and Lainey, his sister in-law Susie and a niece and nephew, and numerous relatives and friends. Val is predeceased by his parents Bill and Alice Monk, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Marge and Morris Lund, and brother-in-law Pat Adams.
A private family service will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hanton, the nurses and all the staff at the Killam Health Care Centre for the amazing care and compassion that was given to Val and his family. Words cannot express how grateful we are to all of those who went above and beyond every day that Val spent in the hospital. A special thank you to Carrie Ruzicka and Crystal Swanson, Val’s palliative care nurses, who showed so much kindness and care. We will be forever grateful to all of you!
Donations on Val’s behalf to Stars or the Killam Palliative Care would be greatly accepted.
