Obituary of Grace Sharp
S. Grace Sharp (née Coons)
January 8, 1948 – May 11, 2021
The day your heart stopped it changed ours forever.
We are deeply saddened with the passing of our wife, mom and gramma. Peacefully, with us every day by her side in her 74th year, at Northumberland Hills hospital in Cobourg.
She will be missed more than words can say by her loving husband and best friend James (Jim) Sharp; daughter Angela (Wilson) Hirani (Ahmed) and son Jeffery Wilson (Laura). Gram will always be loved and missed forever by Safina, Adam, Emma, Cameron, Easton and great grandchildren Kai and Mason. Along with her dog Lexi and cat Siri.
Survived by her two sisters Myrna (Bob) McImoyle and Gwen Finley and brother Neil. Brother in-law Don Sharp (Janice) and Sister in-law Wendy Powley (Gary). She will be missed by them along with all of her nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart. Predeceased by her parents Nelson and Audrey Coons and brothers Harley and Glenford (Joe), along with her dogs P.J. and Jesse.
Grace was born and raised in Lakefield, Ontario where she spent the majority of her life until she moved to Trenton in 2017. She started at a young age working at the Yum Yum restaurant in Lakefield. At 26 she left there to pursue her career with the LCBO where she devoted the next 29 years, and retired in 2005. She spent her retirement spending quality time with her family and enjoying life in Texas during the winter months where she met a lot of close and special lifetime friends.
She had a hobby farm where she raised and showed goats for many years and loved all animals big and small. Her favourite things were knitting and crocheting especially baby blankets, working in her flower beds and crafts but mostly spoiling her grandchildren.
“Amazing Grace” was one of the strongest and kindest women you will ever meet. She battled and fought cancer 5 times over the course of 11 years and kicked its ass every time. She was always positive and never lost her sense of humour. It wasn’t easy but she did it.
However, after all this she was just too tired to fight anymore. She is truly an inspiration to any one battling cancer as a reminder it doesn’t always win.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change and courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. Words to live by.
Thank you to Dr. Lo who gave us and her the strength for 11 years and the wonderful nurses at the Northumberland hospital in palliative care who went above and beyond during this difficult time. We are truly grateful.
As per Graces wishes a cremation and a private memorial service with immediate family will take place. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian cancer society will be greatly appreciated.
