It is not how long the flower blooms, but how beautifully.
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Donna (Dalla) Cornes. Surrounded by her family on May 10th at the age of 82 years young our beloved wife, Mom, Nanny and Great Grandma passed away. Born in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Mary is predeceased by her parents Frank Dalla and Stella Young (Biskus) as well as her brothers Isidore, David and Ralph and sister Barbara (Sheldrick). Mary is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 57 years, Ernest, and daughters Susan (Jim) and Heather (Joel). She was the proud grandmother of Jeffery (Zita), Karen (Matthew), Robin, Brandon and great grandmother to Lincoln. She also leaves behind her sisters Theresa (Sr), Lillian (Donald) and Eva and kindred friend and cousin Robbin. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews and other dear extended family and friends. Mary worked for Northern Electric (Nortel) for 25 years. Along with many treasured friends, this is where she met her beloved “honey”, Ernie, and married in 1963. In her retirement she took pride in helping others through her countless hours of volunteering at LanChar Outreach and The Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life. She also kept busy with her many cherished friendships including the infamous “Stich & ” group. Her contagious smile and sweet sense of humour contributed to Mary’s lovable gift to turn any stranger into a friend. Above all else she was devoted to her family and invariably put others before herself. As the matriarch of her family, she adored her daughters and grandchildren and always doted on them when they were around. Her fondness of baking meant you could always find a batch of delicious shortbread cookies tucked away in the freezer to share with company or her grandchildren. Mary was an avid card shark known to get a little creative with the rules during her daily game of rummy. She took great pride in their flower gardens and enjoyed watching the variety of birds that visited the feeders outside their sunroom. Known for her beautiful smile, caring heart, loving embrace and unconditional love, Mary will always be loved and forever remembered. A celebration of life will be held at a later date when we are all able to gather again. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Munro & Morris Funeral Homes Ltd., 114 Main St. South, Alexandria (613-525-2772). As expressions of sympathy memorial donations to Glengarry Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
