Guido Anthony Marini passed away suddenly but peacefully at Trillium Health Partners Mississauga on May 10, 2021 in his 92nd year. Born August 30, 1929 in Wallaceburg, Ont., Guido was the youngest of Pia and Antonio Marini’s three children, and was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Dina Fournelle and Siria Jacisin. Guido was the beloved husband of 60 years to Kathryn (Kay, née Birtles), who predeceased him in June 2016, and is survived by their four children, Joe (Anita), Dick (Maria), Nancy, and Virginia. He was the proud grandfather of Michael (Jan), Sara (Adrian), Elizabeth (Adam), Charles (Lauren), Erin (Warren), Christopher (Emily), Kate, Diane, and Lydia, and delighted in their adventures and successes. Guido retired from TD Bank as Senior Vice President in 1992 after spending the entirety of his 40+ year career there, beginning at the Bank of Toronto in Wallaceburg. His career took him to Toronto, where he met Kay, and on to memorable stops in Hamilton, Calgary, and Edmonton before concluding back in Toronto. Guido enjoyed a long and healthy retirement, travelling internationally, spending winters in Siesta Key, FL and remaining an active member of the St. George’s Club, where he was an avid golf and bridge player. He was an exceptional card player and a lover of all sports, especially baseball, football, and golf. After Kay’s death, he moved to an active lifestyle seniors’ residence (Tapestry at Village Gate), where he made many new friends, as he did everywhere he went. Blessed with considerable common sense, energy, and an outgoing personality, he was a tough yet fair business person and parent, and a friend and mentor to countless. He is fondly remembered by innumerable colleagues and friends, and a host of relatives in both the Marini and Birtles families. A private family funeral will be held at St. Gregory’s Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada www.crohnsandcolitis.ca.
