Imre Jim Sarkozi 1937 2021

Obituary of Imre (Jim) Sarkozi
On Saturday May 1, 2021, Imre (“Jim”) Sarkozi , loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 84.
Jim was born on January 13, 1937 in Jaszbereny and lived in Budakeszi, Hungary. He escaped from Hungary in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution and arrived in Canada on board the ship “Stockholm” on May 5, 1957. A hard working immigrant, he travelled to any city where he could find work eventually settling in Hamilton, Ontario. Here he met his wife Eva Nemeth. They were married on November 5, 1960 and continued to live in Hamilton/Stoney Creek, Ontario where they raised their three daughters, Eva, Ildi and Viktoria (Nora). Jim was a lifetime member of the St. Stephen of Hungary Roman Catholic Parish Church and the Hamilton Hungarian Community Centre.
Jim was an avid fisherman and loved to spend time at Sparrow Lake. He could always be seen venturing out early in the morning and evening – happy to come back with a string of fish which he and his friends would cook into a fish stew and enjoy as a community. He loved to spend time with his friends in the Hungarian community and many hours were spent singing, dancing and playing cards at the Hungarian Community Centre. In his younger years, he was an avid soccer player and goal tender. He rarely missed seeing Hockey Night in Canada on TV and loved to watch the Toronto Maple Leafs and Team Canada play. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time in the backyard feeding the squirrels and many birds that would come to visit and meeting for coffee with his friends at Limeridge Mall. He is well known for his sense of humour. He loved to laugh and to make other people laugh. Everyone will miss hearing his jokes. Rest in peace “Mookie”.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Istvan and mother Ilona. Much loved, “Apa” is survived by his wife Eva, his three children, Eva Lamb, Ildi Sarkozi (John Bekiaris), and Viktoria Jackson (John Jackson) and his three grandchildren Andrew, Amy and Brett.
