Janice’s Obituary
Janice Ida Christenson (Johnson) passed away peacefully on April 30th surrounded by her family. She was born in Melfort on March 8/1954. She was the eldest child of Lorne & Fran Johnson.
She started school in Fairy Glen, making friends that have lasted a lifetime. She continued her education in Melfort, graduating from MUCC.
Janice loved doing anything outdoors & farm related – chores, driving tractor, hauling grain, even raising & selling a beef in 4H. In another time, farming would’ve been her chosen path in life.
In the early ‘80’s Janice & Chris opened Jughead’s Drive-In in Kinistino. Busy times raising their family & becoming part of the community.
Janice worked for many years at Parkland in Melfort, in both the old & new facilities, making good friendships along the way.
Janice was first diagnosed with Cancer 13 years ago. She has endured countless surgeries, procedures & treatments, all that goes along with such a long battle, including a stroke which she fought her way back from, never complaining. She was truly one of the strongest people we have known. As her health has declined she has relied more on homecare services. Everyone who has come into her life has been loved & appreciated. The smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest difference.
Mom loved thunderstorms, Christmas, scary movies and laughing with her friends and family. More than anything though, she loved her children & grandchildren. She had a wicked sense of humor that she showed us all even in her final moments.
Left to remember & love her will be her partner of many years, Floyd Farncombe; her daughter Donna (Jason) Bates; grandkids, Brody, Avery & Lexie. Her sons Darcy Christenson; grandson Evan; Devin Christenson; grandson Emmet and son Cody Farncombe. Sister Jill (Garry) Wiebe; Brother Jerry (Joan) Johnson. Numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins & friends.
The evening that she passed away, her family was all together sitting outside enjoying a beautiful sunny evening. Out of nowhere the sky changed color and we heard thunder. Next came the lightning and a rainbow and we knew that was a sign from her. As quickly as it came in it was gone and we all felt at peace. The perfect sign she could’ve sent us all.
Her family would like to say a huge thank you to the homecare girls in Melfort for their exceptional care and friendship. She always talked so highly of you all.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Melfort Homecare or the Fairy Glen Cemetery.
