Obituary of Yvonne Marie (DeCoste, Anderson) Brow
Sadly, the heart of our matriarch stopped beating at 4:08 am on April 24, 2020. Born September 14, 1937 in Havre Boucher, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Elias and Rose Madonna (Levangie) DeCoste. She married Jerome Anderson on September 26, 1955 and became a widow at age 29 on May 13, 1967. She was left to raise five children and was pregnant with her sixth child. Money was scare at that time, but there was always lots of food on the table, heat in the house and lots of love to go around. Mom married Norbert Brow in June 1972 and with this marriage, she was blessed with three more children. Mom became a widow, a second time, on June 21, 1997. Mom never completed high school or worked outside the family home, but she was a hard worker and a great softball player. She took great pride as she watched her children leave the family home as they entered their chosen careers, namely, education, health care, oil/gas and paper industry, fishing/forestry, hospitality and business administration. On Thursday nights, you always found Mom at the Bingo Hall. She took pride in knitting socks, mittens and sweaters. All family members have gotten to wear Nanny’s socks, sweaters and mittens. Many local fisherman and construction workers still wear her socks/mittens today. She was immensely proud of the peonies, rose bushes, burning bushes, snowball bush and lilies that grow in her flower garden. Anyone who came to visit always left with a full stomach. She enjoyed watching the birds at her feeders and the deer and rabbits that graced her fields.
Mom is survived by her daughters, Mary Anderson (Cecil MacQuarrie), Strathlorne; Rose (John) Murphy, East Havre Boucher; Brenda Anderson, Eastern Passage; Rosanne (Terry) MacNeil, Long Stretch; Monica (Robert) Dort, East Havre Boucher; and Shauna Brow (Elvis Mosher), Merland; sons Carmen Anderson, Shelburne; Donnie Anderson (Angela DeGruchy), Fort MacMurray; and Ronnie, East Havre Boucher; grandchildren, Jonathan (Amie) Anderson, Lisa Brow (James Briand), Joey (Elena) Whattam, Jessica Whattam (Steven Ardley), Tesla Ehler (Joe Smith), Foster MacNeil, Andy Murphy (Jamie Wells), Charlie MacNeil, Cody Mosher, Julie Murphy (Sam MacQuarrie), Darrell Dort (Jasmine Benoit), Oakley Dort, Hannah MacNeil (Cory Raymond), and Ben MacNeil; step grandchildren Cindy MacQuarrie (Ken Muise), Callum MacQuarrie and Ryan DeGruchy; great- grandchildren Anastasia Whattam, Brody Smith, Bentley (her curly-head baby), Scotia Murphy, Ava MacNeil and Sadie MacNeil .. Mom is survived by brother Lawrence (Annette) DeCoste, sister Emma Pettipas, sisters-in law Darlene DeCoste, Diane (Willard) Pettipas, brother-in-law Francis (Margaret) Brow and very loyal friends Dolly Fraser and Sister Margaret Chisholm. She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Mom was predeceased by infant son Stephen Jerome Anderson, sister Ida Mae Forgeron, brother Carl DeCoste, brothers-in-law Joseph Pettipas and Vincent Forgeron.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury. Cremation has taken place.
