Obituary
Peacefully on May 25, 2020 at Douglas Campbell Lodge, Yvonne Legault passed away at the age of 91 years.
Yvonne will be remembered by her children Michael Legault of Portage La Prairie and Kimberley (Frederick) Banman of Winkler, grandchildren Megan, Amber (Eric), Courtney (Scott), Amanda, Matthew (Tena), Richard, and Erin, great-grandchildren Jayden, Bella, Ethan, Liam, Aurora, Stella, Samuel, Hunter, Shaylynn and Cheyenne, and longtime close friends Stan and Val James and Shannon Tessier.
Yvonne was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert Legault, parents Marguerite and Alex Mondor, brother Jim Lock, and sister Rita Veren.
Yvonne was born October 20, 1928 in Ninette, Manitoba. She graduated grade 12 and spent some time working alongside her grandmother who was a midwife. Eventually, Yvonne headed to Winnipeg and in her late 20’s met and married Gilbert Legault. Gilbert and Yvonne spent the next 15 years of marriage travelling the globe with the Canadian Armed Forces. In this time, they also had two children, Kimberley and Michael. Their time together was cut short in 1970, when Gilbert passed away. Yvonne was widowed at an early age so she needed to persevere to provide for her two young children. She moved to Ontario, then to Portage La Prairie where she set her roots. She returned to school and received certificates for hospital employment. She worked at Portage la Prairie General Hospital in Housekeeping and as a Nurse’s Assistant. She later returned to school for book keeping and worked at Portage Mutual until her retirement.
She was known for her sarcastic sense of humor, could be stubborn, but would hear you out before deciding to do what she wanted anyways! Yvonne spent years after her retirement doing things she enjoyed like playing Bingo, shopping, and coffee/lunch dates with her friends.
A private service will be held.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Yvonne’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Boulevard Winnipeg, MB R3P 2T5, Diabetes Association, 401-1 Wesley Ave, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 4C6, or to a charity of one’s choice.
