Yvette Cecile Dumont 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Yvette on Friday, September 18, 2020 in Edmonton, AB at the age of 93, peacefully in her sleep at home.
Mom was an outgoing, generous, and hardworking lady who was admired for her skillful sewing, her vibrant yard, especially her roses, geraniums and hydrangeas, and delicious tourtière pies. She often shared beautiful hand-made quilts that were coveted by family and friends, and many relatives enjoyed receiving the numerous oak trees nurtured and gifted by mom; they will be her legacy.
Yvette was born in Ponteix, Saskatchewan to Rose (Desharnais) and Emile Thibault; she was the eldest of 11 children, 9 of whom survived. In 1950, Mom married Leo Dumont and they moved to Edmonton and raised Don, Ken, Paulette and Rose. Yvette and Leo ran a rooming house in the Garneau area for 12 years, and in 1964 moved to the family home in the Highlands area where she resided for 54 years. After Rose started school, Yvette worked as a school secretary at Ecole Saint Jean Boys School and Ecole J.H. Picard School until 1988. In retirement she was an avid community volunteer. Travelling and road trips, gardening, reading historical books about Western Canada, and daily conversations with Ken were amongst her favorite pastimes.
Mom will be sadly missed by son Ken; daughters, Paulette Dumont (Mich Forster) and Rose (Uwe) Brandt; 5 grandchildren: Fletcher (Andrea Byrd) Walls, Jared (Annie) Walls, Devon Walls (Ashley Boras), Erik Brandt and Alexa Brandt; and 4 great grandchildren: Eli and Emmett Walls, Zaiden Walls-Byrd and Eve Byrd. She is also survived by brothers Paul and Lionel Thibault, sisters Georgette (Jack) Martin, Lucille Kopperud, and Irene (Rene) Dureault; sisters in law Siri Thibeault, Orra and Marj Thibault; and many nephews, nieces and friends.
Yvette is predeceased by husband Leo; son Don; her parents, Rose and Emile Thibault, in-laws Amedee and Annastasia (Dwyer) Dumont; infant brothers Rene and Real; brothers; Harvey, Armand and Rene Thibault; sisters-in-law: Joyce and Helene Thibault, and Jean Wasylishen; brother-in-law Don Kopperud, and in-laws: Wilfred (Florence) Dumont, Ed (Mary) Dumont, Sister Marie Dumont, Lawrence (Barb) Dumont, Bob (Bernice) Dumont; nephews: Greg and Jeff Kopperud, Gerald, Lyle, Paul, and Michael Dumont; and niece Evelyn Henry.
The family wishes to thank neighbours Hal and Agnes Lineger, and Diane and Rick Goebel for their kindness and support over the years.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be no formal service. A private family service will take place where Mom will be laid to rest at the Holy Cross Cemetery family plot. A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date, after the pandemic.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Yvette’s honour may be made to Doctors without Borders at www.doctorswithoutborders.ca
