WORRALL Shirley May nee Hill 2020

January 6, 1940 – December 3, 2020
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our cherished wife, mother and grandmother, Shirley, on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Grandview Lodge in Dunnville. Shirley was deeply loved and will be forever missed by her husband, Jim of 60 years. Shirley is the proud mother of six children: Arlene and Mike “Butch” Tatarnic and their children John, Sarah, and Erin; Connie and Rick Shepherd, Eric (Alee), Dean, and Lacey; Judy and Sean O’Neill, Shamus and Riley; Brenda and Dan Kowaleski, Hannah, Laura, and Brendan; Beverly and Jeff Little, Brittany, Megan, Madison, and Abby; and Ron and Sheri Worrall, Olivia and Rowan. Shirley was born to the late Walter and Lorna Hill and was raised on the family farm in Cheapside along with her sister Joyce Nauman (Keith) and brother Dwight Hill (Nancy). Shirley will be forever missed by her many in-laws, nieces and nephews who she always enjoyed.
Shirley was well known for her fabulous cooking and baking; a seemingly effortless talent for preparing the perfect meal or a delicious pie with no need to measure, she just seemed to know the perfect recipe. The kitchen was the heart of her home and some of our fondest family memories were made around the kitchen table. Mom always took special pride in making our large family gatherings heartfelt and meaningful for all who gathered around the table and stayed to “chat”, lingering long after the plates had been cleared. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and they will always remember going to Grandma’s house for much anticipated sleepovers and her famous “Mac and Cheese”. The coffee pot was bottomless in Shirley’s kitchen and was always ready for friends and neighbours when they stopped for a visit. Jim and Shirley loved the outdoors and spent many summers camping at the “Rave-A-Way” along the Grand River with lifelong friends and family. Shirley was very proud of her family home and will be forever missed by neighbours who could count on a friendly wave from the front porch when they passed by. Shirley was a dedicated member of the Dunnville Hospital Auxiliary and enjoyed volunteering in the Gift Shop. She was devoted to her faith and an active member of the South Cayuga Community Church, serving on many committees and groups and could always be counted on for assistance and generosity. Later in life, although health issues limited her physical ability to do the many things she enjoyed, it was her selfless acts of kindness, her wisdom and wit, and her integral values, which her children and others admired most. Mom, every good-bye with you was always so hard, but this one will be the hardest. We will all miss you forever and we hope you know how special you were to so many people.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Grandview Lodge for their compassionate care, and to Drs. Kamouna and Juergens who respectively managed her primary and oncology health care. A private family gathering and cremation has taken place. A celebration of Shirley’s life will take place at a later date. In her memory, donations can be made to the South Cayuga Community Church or The Dunnville Hospital and Healthcare Foundation.
