Winterdyk Dirk 2020

Winterdyk, Dirk
Dirk Winterdyk, born June 10, 1930 in The Hague, The Netherlands, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 23, 2020 at his residence in Meaford, ON.
Dirk is survived by his three children: Patricia Ann (Oliver), Donna May (Ferchuk), and John Winterdyk. He is also survived by his grandchildren Danny, Michael, and Alexander, and great grandchildren Alexander and Suzie.
Dirk and his family moved to Meaford in the late sixties and was well known to many in town. Together with his former wife Elizabeth “Els”, who predeceased him in Nov. 2017, they operated a delicatessen for several years in the 1970’s and then Dirk ran his own bookkeeping company on Sykes Street until his retirement.
After retiring, Dirk travelled extensively for both pleasure and humanitarian work that took him to countries such as China, Haiti, Poland, the Philippines, and Cuba, the latter of which became an annual trip for him until his health no longer allowed him to travel. He spent the last several years of his life at home and was never shy to tell any visitors that he was well taken care of by the local PSW’s (personal service workers).
At Dirk’s request there will be no public service or memorial gathering.
In lieu of flowers and as your expression of sympathy, donations may be made to Meaford Church of Christ Cuba Mission (tel.: 519-538-1750) or the Grey-Bruce Care Partners service (tel.: 519-271-9473) or through the Ferguson Funeral Home website: www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca where messages of condolence may also be expressed.
