Obituary
Winston (Will) Alvin Rushton
September 13, 1943 – January 1, 2020
After a sudden onset of lymphoma, Will passed away on January 1, 2020 surrounded by his family in Jasper, Alberta. Will is survived by Gail Duncan, his sons Mark, Steven (Andrea), Bradley, his nine grand children, and extended family and many friends throughout Canada.
Born in Oxford, Nova Scotia, Will left his home upon joining the RCMP, serving a number of years in K-Division (Alberta) before leaving the Force to pursue other interests which included working in the insurance field, owning and operating a General Motors Dealership in Viking, Alberta, and serving as Mayor of Viking for several years.
Will moved to Jasper with his family in 1987 and resided in the town until his passing. He owned and operated several local businesses over the years, including The Western Shop (later renamed High Country Casuals), Gilligan’s Restaurant at Pyramid Lake, and The Quarry at Jasper Park Lodge. After retiring from small business in 2011, Will worked as a Player’s Assistant at the Lodge which allowed him to enjoy his passion for golf while interacting with the many players, guests and staff at the hotel.
Will was an active member of the community of Jasper as a member of the Chamber of Commerce and volunteered with the Rotary Club of Jasper and Meals on Wheels. Will greatly enjoyed travelling abroad with his family and friends. He had a passion about cooking and greatly enjoyed entertaining his many friends at his home.
A celebration for Will’s life will be held in the spring. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.foothillsmemorialchapel.com. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society.
