VICKERS, Winnifred “Winnie” (nee Shannahan) – It is with heavy hearts that we share the peaceful passing of our mother, Winnifred Vickers, age 86, at The Agnes Pratt Nursing Home on Saturday, March 28, 2020. Winnie was born on January 21, 1934 in Cape Broyle, NL, and is predeceased by her husband Gerald Vickers; her daughter, Valentina; her parents, Lawrence and Mary Shannahan; brothers: Lawrence, Robert, William (Colette), John (Josephine), Frank (Mary); sisters: Emma (Alan Williams), Theresa (Alan Walsh), Margaret (John McCarthy), Katherine (Peter McLaughlin) and Joan O’Neill (Bernard). Leaving to mourn her children, Andrew Vickers and Cathy Vickers-Hickey (Dean); grandchildren: Amanda Vickers, Karl Vickers (Victoria), Danielle Adams (Mark) and Scott Vickers-Heffernan (Kristine); great-grandchildren: Jack Vickers-Pirie, Brooklyn Vickers, Brody Vickers and Madison Vickers. She also leaves behind brothers: Ron (Marena), Kevin; and sister Sally (John Skehans); and her very special friend, Kitty Mulrooney.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Our family would like to thank all the staff at The Agnes Pratt Nursing Home for their compassion and wonderful care given to our mother during her time spent there. Donations in her memory may be made to The Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation. In lieu of visitation, the family and staff of Barrett’s Funeral Home encourage people to post their condolences, share photos, and tributes by visiting the online memorial guestbook at www.barretts.ca.
