Willie Bill Medwid May 3 1926 September 18 2020

Willie (aka Bill) Medwid passed away peacefully at Ridge Meadows Hospital in Maple Ridge, BC on September 18, 2020. Born on the family farm in Ardath, Saskatchewan on May 3, 1926 to parents Mike and Annie Medwid, Bill was the oldest of nine children. As a kid, Bill loved going to school which was in a one-room schoolhouse, but he quit before graduation to help his Dad full time on the farm. As a young man, Bill worked as a telegrapher on the railroad, and in the 1950’s moved to New Westminster, BC where he began his career working in the lumber mills. In the spring of 1960, Bill met his future wife, Betty (nee Welsh) while living in the same apartment building on Queens Avenue, and they married in March 1961. They moved into a new house in Coquitlam, BC in 1963 and raised 2 boys, Brad born in 1965 and Gregg born in 1966. Bill worked in various mills until he retired in 1986 and continued to live in Coquitlam until he moved into a care home in Maple Ridge in 2016.
Bill loved the outdoors. Rain or shine, he spent countless hours tending to his huge vegetable garden, he enjoyed fishing & camping, and spent many afternoons at the horse races.
Bill is lovingly remembered by his son Gregg (Delia), grandchild Kayden, sister Elaine (Damon), and many other family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer Society of BC.
