William Bill Hagarty Sunday May 17th 2020

William Scott Hagarty “Bill”
An eventful and interesting life came to a close when, on Sunday, May 17, 2020 William (Bill) Hagarty 84, died peacefully at his home in Rainy River, Ontario with his family by his side.
Bill was born on November 19, 1935 in The Pas Manitoba to parents Robert (Bob) and Marjory (Marg) Hagarty. The family moved to Rainy River in the 1940’s and settled into the community. Bill’s parents eventually bought property out in Morson where he spent many summers enjoying the lake and all it had to offer. Bill met his best friend on New Years Eve of 1957/58 and she became his wife on August 6, 1960. They spent almost 60 years together and had many adventures in those years. Bill was a life long railroader starting out on the steam engines and transitioning the more modern engines, he used to say that he would love to get his hands on the controls just one more time. Bill was a Mason and a Shriner and he truly enjoyed the wonderful things he got to be a part of because of these organizations. After his retirement Bill and Joan purchased a mobile home in Arizona where they would go every winter for 27 years. Bill had many interests like, travelling, camping, photography, hiking, golfing, woodworking, and target shooting but in his later years his love of flying became his main joy and he spent many weekends dragging Joan out to one fun fly or another (which she secretly loved). Bill never met a stranger; he would talk to anyone about almost anything and because of that has many friends from all over.
Survived by his wife Joan Hagarty (Lyons), his son and daughter-in-law Brad & Liz Hagarty, his daughter Lynnette Hagarty, two grandchildren and four great grandchildren as well as other relatives and many loving friends.
Predeceased by his parents Robert (Bob) and Marjory (Scott) Hagarty, and his brother Ken Hagarty.
As per Bill’s wishes a private family gathering will take place in his memory. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Rainy River Public Library by check, c/o Northridge Funeral Home Box 89, Emo, ON P0W 1E0.
