Obituary of Wilfrid “Fred” Demers
It is with great sadness that the family of Wilfrid “Fred” Georges Demers, husband of Madeleine Demers, announces his passing on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at the Loch Lomond Village. Born in Montreal, PQ on May 15, 1935, he was a son of the late George and Anna “Edna” (Chapman) Demers.
In addition to his wife, Madeleine, Fred is survived by his children: Norman (Mary Beth) and Carolyn Flood (Brian); grandchildren: Joshua (Nicola), Amanda Williams (Chris), Gerald (Lauren), Dr. Brittany Flood (Daniel MacLellan) and Dr. Meghan Flood (Jakub Bundil); great-grandchildren: Violet, Ervin, Shea, Oliver, Bennett and Josephine; brother, Gerald Demers (Nancy); sisters: Muriel Poirier and Diane Godin (Gilles); along with cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Fred was predeceased by his son, Dennis.
Fred was a lifelong boater. He and Madeleine spent many happy days cruising the Kennebecasis and St. John Rivers. Both were members of the Renforth Boat Club. Fred was a member of the Renforth Lions Club. He was the driving force behind the building of the Kennebecasis Rowing and Canoe Club for the 1985 Jeux Canada Games. He was a member of the Rothesay Rotary Club. Fred was responsible for the construction of the Renforth Rotary Park. He had a long and successful career with Nortel Networks. Fred and Madeleine spent many happy retirement winters in St. Petersburg, Florida. Family was always first.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) where family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, January 11, 2020 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. A Private Funeral Liturgy will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to be made to the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation.
