Mrs. Wilda Walmark, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the Southbridge Lakehead Manor in Thunder Bay Ontario, at the age of 91 years.
Wilda was born to parents James and Esther Major, Christmas Day 1929, at Little Grande Rapids, Ontario. She was the oldest of 9 children. The family moved to Port Arthur (Thunder Bay), Ontario, so that the children could attend school.
Wilda attended school in Thunder Bay and eventually DePaul University, then Cooke County School of Nursing in Chicago. Wilda returned home after graduating to be with her two young children (Pat and Mike) who were from a previous marriage.
Wilda met and married her husband Ian in 1960, and together they raised three children (Brian, John and David) along with her two sons.
Wilda went into her occupation of choice, Nursing and worked at the Port Arthur General Hospital before retiring from the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital. Wilda was a kind and generous person who loved animals. Her favourite hobbies included sewing, knitting, watching classic films and reading. She could mend or sew anything and made all types of clothing, including Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren.
Wilda and Ian enjoyed attending concerts at the Auditorium. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Wilda moved into Southbridge Lakehead Manor. She enjoyed her stay there and was very content. She enjoyed visits from family, especially her husband Ian.
Wilda is survived by her sons Patrick (Linda) McMenemy, Brian (Louise) Walmark, John (Margit) Walmark and David (Valerie) Walmark; brother Thomas Major and sister Esther/Hezzie (James) McNabb; grandchildren Michael (Sheri) McMenemy, Ian (Cindy) Walmark and Maija Walmark as well as her great-grandchildren Jeffery R. McMenemy and Kamryn McMenemy.
She was predeceased by her husband Ian Walmark; son Marvin (Mike) McMenemy and grandson Jeffery Lawrence McMenemy; brother Joseph Major and sisters Leona (Joe) Gourlay, Lois (Donald) Johnston, Cassie (Fritz) Ostenrud, Eva (James) King and Bernice Major. Also, by her first husband Marvin McMenemy Sr.
Special thanks to the entire staff at Southbridge Lakehead Manor for their kind compassionate care provided for Wilda. We will never be able to thank you enough.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery, where Wilda will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Ian. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or the Animal Shelter of your choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.
