Obituary of WALTER ALLEN SCHELLENBERG
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Walter Schellenberg. Peacefully on December 7, 2020 at Oakview Place, Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 82.
Walter was predeceased by his Mother Helen and Father John Schellenberg, brothers Leonard and Bob. He is survived by Beloved wife of 59 years, Edna Schellenberg along with children Karen (Tony), Brad, Gord (Linda) and Sandra (Kelly). Grandchildren Shaylyn & Eric, Alexa, Madison, MacKenzie, Andrew & Noah, Brendan & Bailee. Along with his Brothers, Dave (Eleanor), Ron (Sandra), Ken (Laureen), & Gerry (Mary), as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Dad (Wally) was kind, generous, had a great sense of humour and always happy to see you. He supported his kids, grandkids and basically anyone that crossed his path. He loved to tell stories and would take the time to listen to stories told to him. He was loyal and loved his family and friends. He absolutely loved his Edna, was proud of his kids and cherished his grandkids.
Our dad met our mom Edna in Prince George, BC and married her in 1961. They moved back to Winnipeg and started their family. Dad started teaching and spent many years at Norquay School. He developed lifelong friendships with staff and students and was even invited to students’ weddings down the road. Every summer we travelled to Paulhaven, Alberta, where we attended church camp for a week. Dad was camp director where more lifelong friendships were acquired. We then headed to Prince George, BC to spend time with our mom’s family. He cherished all the Miller family and loved family gatherings, guitar playing, singing, fishing trips on the Parsnip river and time spent at Summit Lake.
Dad was a huge member of the Woseley community. He loved community sports and volunteered his time at Laura Secord CC. He was a coach, manager and sports convener. He also took care of the community club and spent many nights with his buddy Larry flooding the ice. He emceed banquets, organized fundraisers and team trips. He made sure all kids in the community got a chance to play sports. He was everyone’s hockey dad.
Our family would like to express our gratitude to Oakview Place for the outstanding Care that Wally received. A special thanks to the staff of 1 North. Donations may be made in dads’ memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
We know you are at peace now dad. You probably have a beer in your hand and are telling some great stories. We will miss you and love you!
Due to Covid-19 restrictions a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of WALTER ALLEN
