The psalmist wrote, it is a good thing to give thanks to the Lord! Wallace lived that in his life, love of the Lord, love of family and love of music is the legacy we his family have inherited. His love and devotion to his wonderful wife gave us strength in his final days, he went home as he lived loving the Lord, loving his family and embracing the joy of music. This love and devotion has built a strong foundation which will help us weather the strongest of storms.
Wallace was born and lived his early life in Pt. Leamington, where his family instilled in him the love of the Lord and the love of music. Wallace often said “I met the most beautiful girl in Monkstown”, the love of his life Myrtle, they shared over 59 years together. They lived their lives from Rocky Harbour to Pt. Leamington, on to St. John’s to finally settling in Grand Falls-Windsor. Wallace was diligent in his work and faithful to his Corps in Windsor. He spent many years as Sergeant Major and enjoyed the fellowship this gave him.
His greatest love and joy in life was his family. From the many get togethers with his sister and brothers to sing, harmonize, share laughter and stories, to the times sat round the table with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, this for him was the meaning of life. His other love was music. Whether he was playing the accordion, listening to gospel music with his sweetheart or singing with his family and friends, music brought him joy. It was his testimony, his prayer, the strength that highlighted his joys and helped through his trails. He instilled this love of music in his children and grandchildren and though we will forever miss his beautiful harmonizing voice, it will echo throughout our lives, it will rejoice with us in our triumphs and will wipe away our tears of sorrow, and when we sing he will sing with us.
“In the silence of my chamber, I may with my Saviour share, all my worries and my troubles, as I talk with Him in prayer” – a favourite chorus of Wallace
