Calvin “Wally”
McKay – 79, Bible
Hill, passed away peacefully, with loving family at his side, on
Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre,
Truro. Born in Balfron, Colchester County, he was a son of the late
Alex and Elsie (Sutherland) McKay.
Wallace began
his working career at Tatamagouche Creamery. After moving to Truro, he
worked for Ralston Purina, Nova Scotia Agricultural College, Clarence
Farm Services and finished his working career at S.R. Building.
Wallace had a small hobby farm for 47 years in Upper Brookside where
he raised goats and purebred North Country Cheviot sheep.
Wallace was a
founding member of North River Fire Brigade, member of Cobequid
Twirlers Square and Round Dance Club and Good Time Senior Citizen
Club. 4-H was an organization that Wallace enjoyed and volunteered
with for many years at club, county and provincial levels. He received
awards for Volunteer of Colchester, Friends of 4-H from 4-H Nova
Scotia and Good Shepherds Award from Canadian Sheep Breeders
Association.
Wallace is
survived by his wife and best friend of 52 years, Bonnie (Gullen);
son, Terry, Greenfield; daughter, Patty (Andre Adams), Hilden;
granddaughters, Meghan, Naomi, Jessica; sisters, Catherine McKay,
Carstairs, Alberta; Janetta Marks, Tatamagouche. Along with his
parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Willard, Foster, Fraser.
Special
thanks are extended to the staff on the third floor of Colchester East
Hants Health Centre, Cedarstone Enhanced Care and East Cumberland
Lodge for the special care that was given to our dear husband, father
and grandfather.
Graveside
service will be held at a later date in Union Church Cemetery,
Bayhead, Colchester County. If so desired, donations in
Wallace’s memory to Colchester 4-H Leaders Council,
Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or charity of choice are welcomed.
Arrangements
