Obituary
Mom Joins Dad. As she would say “Finally!!!” and he would say “About time!”
With deep sorrow and some disbelief, we share the passing of our Mom, Vi Clark on Sept 8th, 2020, two days shy of her 88th birthday of Sept 10, 1932. She had family by her side.
She was born and raised in Edmonton where she started her family. She married Norm Clark there and they had four children Andrew (deceased after birth), Kim, Judy and Rick. They took the brave step of moving up to Fort St John in the late fifties where they had two more children, Karen and Dennis. Vi and Norm would spend the rest of their lives happily in Fort St. John.
She was both strong and determined and it was these attributes that allowed her to face more than her fair share of life’s hurdles. She survived a massive stroke at age 36 but continued raising her children, keeping a home, providing large family meals while harassing us all. In later life she survived a car accident with a broken ankle and arm; still later life would give her more broken ankles and a broken hip. This all speaks to her tremendous resiliency and spirit. Through all her hardships she just kept going on with her husband Norm, who was her rock and love of her life, at her side until his passing in 2007. She had incredible pain tolerance and often said “I’m tough” or “What do you do?” and shrugged. Her belief was that you just carry on.
She had a strong impact on people. From the friends of her children, who connected with her in the years her kids were young and carried on being connected with her throughout her life, to all those met along the way, and to the staff who cared for her or worked around her in the care home.
She loved people. She loved to be around people. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved playing crib and could still skunk you regularly!
She loved going to the casino and did so until CoVid stopped her weekly outing. She was a known presence in the hospital these last few years while she lived in Peace Villa. From wheeling herself around the different areas, to straightening the books outside the gift shop, to talking with anyone she could. She loved being social.
She leaves to mourn her: Kim and Suzanne Clark (Kiri (Brody) and Shamara); Judy and Matt Gibson ( Crystal (Dean), Dean, and Jules (Jaelynn)); Rick Clark (Aaron (Meredith) and Myles); Karen and Larry Jurjevich (Michael and Stephen); Dennis and Rachel Clark (Aden and Norman); great grandchildren Katelyn, Bailey, Jorja, Jacks, and Blake, Cylee and Ayden, Tristan and Stella, her sister-in-law, nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
No funeral at Mom’s request. Family will get together Thanksgiving weekend to reunite Mom and Dad in their final resting place. Info regarding this will be posted in the paper closer to the date.
