Violet Ewashina 1929 –

Violet Ewashina 17-Sept-1929 to 2-Jul-2020
Violet Ewashina, age 90, passed away peacefully July 2, 2020.
Violet was the youngest and last surviving of 11 children of Muir and Emma Watson. She was also predeceased by her husband Mike Ewashina in 1996 and her very special niece Brenda Shevolup in 2018.
Violet was born in 1929 and grew up on her family ranch in Savona B.C. where she loved to play with the kittens, rabbits and their pet deer Jack.
Violet attended St Anne’s Academy and following her schooling she worked at the Bank of Montreal in Kamloops. At that time, she spent a few years travelling and sightseeing to Quebec, Niagara Falls, Yellowstone, Mexico and various other places with her mother, Emma.
She met her future husband Mike Ewashina, through Len and Helen and got Married in 1958 and they raised their three children Ken, Joanne and Wayne in Barriere.
Over the years, Violet worked at Barriere Improvement District and Barton and Black Insurance. She was also an active member, volunteer, and past president of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxillary. She also volunteered for Barriere Carling’s fastball, Yellowhead pioneer Residence and Barriere Curling club.
Violet and Mike enjoyed many summers Salmon fishing on their boat at Kitimat B.C. After Mike passed in 1996, Violet spent much of her time with her Grandchildren. She had a unique and special bond with each one of them and was very proud of their accomplishments.
Vi was known to many in the community as Aunty Vi and loved for her contagious laughter and positive outlook. She was such a generous soul and donated to several charities over the years on an ongoing basis like Heart and Stroke, Diabetes and Cancer Research, to name a few. The dearest to her heart was the Canadian Wildlife Federation. She proudly displayed her donation certificates yearly, and her Grandson Kobe plans to continue this legacy for her now.
Per Moms’ wishes, she lived the last four years with her son Wayne and daughter in law, Linda. She enjoyed her time camping at North Barriere Lake or sitting in the backyard in the sunshine with the birds and her deer. She also loved having a visit and a hug from her dear friend Babes Shanko and always a good laugh with her nephew Wink.
Violet will be lovingly remembered by her son Ken (Suzie) Ewashina and grandchildren Lindsay (Chris) Nikkel, Jeff, Jenna (Cole) Yurkowski, Staci and Ami and her great-grandchildren Chase, Jaxen and Rayleigh. Her Daughter Joanne (Mike) Judge and grandchildren James and David. Her Son Wayne (Linda) Ewashina and grandchildren Keyvan (Marianna) Kobe and great-grandchild Jake. And numerous nieces and nephews.
The loss of our Mother leaves a real vacancy in our lives, but her generous spirit and love of life will live on in our hearts.
Rest in peace, Mom.
Family gathering is planned for Vi’s Celebration of life.
Thank you to the Doctors and nurses on 5 North at RIH and MaryAnn from Drake Cremation and Funeral Services.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Barriere Royal Canadian Legion In Violet’s memory.
