Vince Walker 2020

George Vincent Walker
North Sydney
It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved George Vincent Walker, on Saturday, April 25, 2020, with his loving wife Kay by his side, after a long battle with cancer.
He was the son of the late George and Genevieve (Devoe) Walker. He was a member of St. Ann Parish in Alder Point.
Vince was a gentleman who carried himself in a manner that was respectful to all. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cooking, camping, and watching sports. Always sports minded, Vince played hockey with the Bras d’Or Lakers, and his team was inducted into the Northside Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
Leaving home as a young man, Vince joined the Army in 1955, and served for 9 years, including Germany. He loved sports in the service, boxing, hockey and most certainly the track and field. Vince won the fifteen-hundred meters Brigade track and field in Germany. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Vince and Kay moved to St. Catharines and married. He worked at Sico Paint and met many friends. He was a trainer with the Junior A Blackhawks, won the OHA championship, and went to the Memorial Cup in Calgary in 1974.
Vince and Kay moved back to Cape Breton and settled in beautiful Englishtown. They enjoyed spending time with cherished neighbours and friends.
Vince is survived by his devoted and loving wife of over 53 years, Katherine (Kay) (Timmins) Walker. He will be fondly remembered by his son Richard and wife Angela. He also leaves behind his sisters Ann Larade (Bob), Comox, sister Sr. Joan Walker, Antigonish, Betty Graham (Brad), Owen Sound, Norma Marsh (Lou), Little Pond, Carol Vickers (Johnny MacNeil), Sydney Mines, and Vicky Taylor (Jimmy) Florence, brothers Leonard (Jean), Alder Point, Ken (Heidi), Oromocto, Sheldon, Toronto, Gordon (Barbara), Riverview, Donald (Sandy), Guelph, Gerard (Susan) Thunder Bay, Pius (Deborah), Elmsdale, and Greg (Joanne), Alder Point, special uncle Johnny, many nieces, nephews, and friends. Vince will also be missed by his four-legged buddy Marley.
Besides his parents, Vince was predeceased by his sister Helene, and brothers Gilbert, James Arden and Richard.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. The funeral will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Centre, Hospice Society, or St. Ann Church, Alder Point. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
Vince will always be loved…Until we meet again.
