Obituary
Vernon passed away at the age of 77 in Edson, Alberta.
He was born on November 28, 1942 in Victoria, BC to George & Ida Banfield.
His brothers were Keith (Helen) Banfield, Jack (deceased) (Lyna) Banfield, Wayne (Marilyn) Banfield.
On June 27, 1985 he married Denise Townsend after moving to Edson.
Vern belonged to many community groups in Edson. He was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Joe Wynne Branch #51 (Past President) Ordinary member since 1988. Vern was also a member of the Edson Masonic Lodge #68, the Royal Arch Masons Chapter #30, Al Shamal Shriners Edmonton, Northern Lights Shrine Club of Edson and Elizabeth Trapp Chapter #138 Order of the Eastern Star of Edson.
He moved his family in 1984 to Edson, AB from Victoria, B.C. to take a position with Pelican Mills now known as Weyerhaeuser in the Shipping Department for 23 Years. Vern always enjoyed a good game of Golf, he was very passionate about this sport. In his younger days he enjoyed Hockey, Hunting and Fishing off of Vancouver Island. He loved spending quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid fan of old Country Music, Elvis Presley and Rock & Roll. Vern was always quick to tell a joke and had a wonderful sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Vern is survived by his wife of 35 years, Denise Banfield; his children Laurie (Kevin) Evans (Washington State, USA), Vincent (Denise) Banfield(Duncan, BC), Tina-Lee (Colin) Oakes (Duncan, BC), Victor (Cherie) Banfield (Edmonton, AB), Sherry (Brad) Larkin (Edson, AB) & Jason Banfield (Edson, AB) as well as his grandchildren Jennifer, Daniel, Shalan & Celise, Keri-Lynn & Roman, Amanda, Crystal, Kyla, Shania & Amy, Victoria & Chloe, Briella & Donovan. There are also 17 great grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews.
Vern was predeceased by his parents: George Banfield (DOD April 2, 1982) Victoria, BC and Ida (McAllister) Banfield (DOD October 2008) Victoria, BC as well as his brother Jack Banfield (June 25, 1997) Lake Cowichan, BC; Inlaws John Townsend (DOD September 10, 1973) Victoria, BC & Mary (Poulton) Townsend (January 18, 2017) Victoria, BC.
A celebration of life will follow at a later date, possibly Summer 2021.
