Obituary
ALTROGGE, Vernon
Vernon Altrogge, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed peacefully with his family by his side on August 29, 2020.
Predeceased by his parents Joseph and Sophia, brothers Albert, William, Raymond, Edwin and Robert and sisters Dorothy and Bernice. Survived by brother Leo and sister Corine (Tony) Fabro as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Vernon was born on November 18, 1938 in Cudworth, Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm in St Benedict. He attended school in St Benedict from Grade 1 to Grade 11 and completed Grade 12 at St Paul’s in Saskatoon. Upon graduation, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force for a short time before working with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. He worked for them and CSP Foods until 1989. At this time he joined the Corp of Commissioners and worked at the back door of Sasktel until his official retirement in August 2020.
While working at the Wheat Pool he met Margaret Lukowich and on October 19, 1963 they married and have been inseparable ever since. They had two daughters Sandra (Dale) Schindel and Debbie (Mike Reschny) Altrogge. He had a close and special relationship with his two granddaughters, Morgan and Mikayla Reschny, whom he was incredibly proud of. He was also a grandfather to numerous “granddogs” and spent many hours giving them pets.
Vernon was a meticulous gardener. His lawn, flowers and garden were always immaculate. He also spent many winters in his woodworking shop turning out beautiful pens and fine woodworking projects.
Vernon was loved by everyone who knew him. He was a kind and gentle man who would do anything for anyone. He will be deeply missed by many.
Special thanks to Medavie Ambulance Care, RUH emergency staff and RUH neurology staff for the excellent care that dad received and the compassion they showed to the family.
