Obituary of Verne Fleury
Verne Fleury (Laverne) will be joyfully remembered by his family and all that knew him. He passed away suddenly on September 11, 2020, at age 60 in the Saskatoon area.
Verne had no greater love in his life than his children; whether it was working alongside Mac under the hood of their latest project or road trips and auctions to find the next one. He was Maya and Keala’s greatest supporter, encouraging them to succeed as athletes, accompanying them to countless ringette games and tournaments, soccer and ball practices; building rinks and apparatus in the backyard for them to hone their skills. They were all three, his pride and joy. Verne gave freely of himself and his time to his children pouring into them all the love he had in his heart. His dedication was there for all to see.
Classic cars, new and old, were a passion that he bonded over with family and friends throughout the years. Working on them; cruising in them; swapping stories and expertise about them and dealing on that next perfect find. A member of the Shifters car club he could be found at the ‘usual’ spot on 8th Street on a warm summer evening, often joined by his kids and their latest vehicle, that he undoubtedly had a hand in big or small.
Verne approached life with a positivity and energy that rarely wavered. He never outgrew a youthful curiosity, playfulness and awe; a part of him stayed forever young. He was quick with a smile, a helping hand and a goofy joke. He had mechanical ability and diy knowhow that ran deep in his veins. He was hard working, humble and genuine to the core. There is no doubt that we his family and friends were better to have known and loved him.
There is so much to say about this good man. About where he came from, the life that he built and the future he had planned. At the heart of it all he was a loving father, son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew and friend. He is gone too soon from our lives and will be dearly missed.
Verne will be forever remembered by his son Mackenzie, by his daughters Maya and Keala, by his father Ken (Carolyn), by his sisters Colleen (Juan Carlos) and Charline, and his niece Ellen (Corbin) Walberg. He will also be forever remembered by his extended family, mother of his children, Jacqui (nee Booth), and many friends. Verne was predeceased by his daughter Emily and his mother Jeannine.
A celebration of Verne’s life will be held with family.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Verne
