Venita D Egli Monday May 18th 2020

In loving memory of Venita Egli (nee Steinke) who passed away suddenly on Monday, May 18th, 2020 at Health Sciences North at the age of 87. Beloved wife of Joseph Egli, predeceased. She was the cherished mother of her daughters Debbie Ostridge (Charlie) of Wasaga Beach and Jo-Anne Schroeder (Dan) of Ashton. A proud Nanny of Britany, Ashley, Alexandra and Jacob and her fur grand babies Bosley, Jubee and Wilson. Predeceased by her parents Fred and Dora Steinke and siblings Freddie, Gertie, Gwen, Tina, Velma, Arno and Linda. Missed by her sister-in-law Evelyn Steinke and her many nieces, nephews and friends.
Venita, or as most people knew her, Wonnie, was born January 28th, 1933 in Massey. She was the youngest of 8 and grew up on a farm. It was at a Lee Valley Hall dance that she met a young Swiss man named Joseph who was working at Inco during the week and came to Massey to work on the farms on the weekends. They went on to get married and raise their two daughters.
She devoted her life to her home, her garden and especially her family. She was extremely generous, creative and a skilled carpenter. You name it, she did it. From knitting slippers and socks for anyone who passed through her door to creating keepsakes for Debbie’s annual Christmas cards to replacing shingles on the roof of her shed. She did more at her age than most would attempt at half her age. She was a fixer of both home and heart.
Wonnie passed down her baking traditions of Dilly Bread, oh so tiny Christmas sugar cookies, and her infamous breakfast. She loved gardening. Had flowers galore and would grow enough vegetables to eat all winter. She was known as THE lady with the most impressive flowers and garden in the neighbourhood.
She was adored by her grandchildren who “will hug each other a little closer, feel grounded in our Nanny’s slippers, and remember that some of our favourite parts of ourselves, like determination, hard work, creativeness, ability to absorb knowledge, thoughtfulness, independence, and love of family are passed on to us from our Nanny. We love you.”
In keeping with her wishes, cremation will take place with a celebration of life held at a later date. If desired, donations to the Zion Lutheran Church in Massey would be greatly appreciated.
