Velma’s Obituary
In Loving Memory of Velma Leona Rust
Velma Rust was called home by our heavenly Father on February 01, 2020 at the age of 95 years, while residing in the Valleyview Hospital Long Term Care.
Velma was born March 25th, 1924 in Golden Prairie, SK to Reinhold & Lydia Stach. Velma married the love of her life, Rudy in 1942 in Lloydminster, AB. In 1959, the family moved to Medicine Hat.
Velma was a homemaker having raised 6 children. Later on she worked part time in the laundry & cleaning departments in Hay River, NT Hospital and in an Edmonton Lodge. She also worked at York Farms Cannery in Sardis, BC sorting & packaging fruit & vegetables in their processing plant.
They have been blessed with many friends wherever they lived. Valleyview, AB has been home for 35 yrs. Velma especially loved and held a special place in her heart for all her grandchildren. She loved growing flowers, trading plant slips with family & friends, sewing, knitting & crocheting baby blankets, making quilts and all kinds of crafts.
Velma liked to write family history, photography and completed a mega album collection for which we are all eternally grateful. Of course Velma also loved to tell stories & reminisce of the good old days.
In 2006, Rudy and Velma moved into the Red Willow Lodge and enjoyed visits from family & friends, playing games, gardening, singing gospel songs in the choir and going on trips with the Lodge bus. They looked forward to the gospel singers and the churches that took turns coming to the Lodge every week.
Velma is survived by her loving 6 children Wayne, Grace, Marlene, Fern, Larry & Dean,
10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren & 1 great great grandson.
Velma was predeceased by her loving husband Rudy of 71 years, infant son Roger; parents Reinhold and Lydia Stach, brother Clifton Stach, sister-in-law Arlene Stach, niece Maureen Carrie Stach, nephew Ray Ouelette, niece Eleanor Zeller & all of Rudy’s siblings & spouses.
A celebration of Velma’s life will be held on February 7th, 2020 at the Evangel Pentecostal Church in Valleyview, AB.
