Vandyke’s Obituary
Cameron, Vandyke Fraser Herbert – Age 77, Wood’s Harbour. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Vandyke on May 30, 2020. He was the son of the late Stewart and Kathleen Olivia (Crowell) Cameron. Van was a hard worker all of his life. He started at a very young age helping support his family after his father’s death. He was a fisherman for over 60 years, and proud to have Wayne walk in his footsteps. He loved his family dearly and had been known to help Bailey catch butterflies and make his special pancakes for Brooke. He was proud to be a great grampie to Westyn and Jack and enjoyed their visits. Van was quite the athlete, well known to smash a baseball far over the fence and an aggressive hockey player. He is survived by Dorothy (Roy), his loving wife of 56 years; son, Wayne (Sherry) Cameron; granddaughters, Brooke (Shane); Bailey (Sam); great-grandsons, Westyn Cameron and Jack Dulong; brothers, Phillip, Donald (Karen) and Doward (Ruby-Anne); sisters, Elaine Ross and Muriel Nickerson. Besides his parents he was predeceased by sister, Arlene Smith. The family would like to thank Dr. Yee, the VON staff, all of the nurses and doctors of Roseway Hospital for all their care and support. In keeping with Van’s wishes cremation has taken place. There will be no formal visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be held at a late date. Memorial donations may be made to the VON or charity of choice. Online condolences may be sent to huskilson@ns.aliantzinc.ca or you may sign the guest book at www.huskilson.net
