Obituary
RUTTAN, Valeria (Val) Margaret (Smith) – It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, and grandmother on Sunday, March 8, 2020. Val is the daughter of the late Jean Garrison and Elmer Smith. She is survived by her husband Gerald (Jerry) of 62 years, daughters Alison Davis (George), Andrea Ruttan, and grandchildren Michael, Erin, and Emily. Also survived by her siblings Marge Grant-Hart, Jack, Doug (Dianna), Lorne, Gary (Susan), Elizabeth (Dan), and Fred. She is predeceased by her brother Bill and sister Marion and will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Val will be remembered by many friends and community members for her involvement with numerous organizations, including the Girl Guides of Canada, Friends of Frontenac Park, South Frontenac Museum Society, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 496, Social and Athletic Club of Harrowsmith, SFC Foodbank, among others. She was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal for all of her volunteer work. The family would like to thank all KGH staff for their care & compassion over the last 8 months. In keeping with Val’s wishes, there will be a private burial. The church service will be held on Thursday, March 12 at 11 am at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Sydenham. In lieu of flowers, donations for those wishing can be made to the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario or Hospice Kingston.
