Obituary of Una Gourley
It is with great sadness that the family of Irene Gourley announces her passing which occurred at St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home on Sunday, October 18, 2020. Born in Saint John, NB on January 25, 1926, she was a daughter of the late William and Una (Watson) Gourley.
Irene grew up as an avid bowler; Wednesday evenings she bowled with the Civil Service team and then on Thursdays she joined the Recycled Teenagers team. She also spent 50 years as a member of Rebekahs Odd Fellows. Irene had a great appreciation for Elvis. She loved all of his music and would listen to him almost every day. She loved to sing for all her friends at the nursing home!
She is survived by her two nieces, Sherri Colwell-McCavour (Ken) and Dottie James; two nephews, Gerald Mathieson and Tom Mathieson (Barb). In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters: Hazel Colwell, Dorothy Tremain, Phyllis Mathieson; brother, Lloyd Gourley; niece, Marie Brewster.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. John & St. Stephen Nursing Home for the amazing care given to Irene during her time with them, especially ‘Nurse Heather’.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). A private service and interment will take place at a later date. Donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick. Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
