Haile Meskel, Tsehay:
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our loving mother and grandmother Tsehay Haile Meskel. All her life, Tsehay was a faithful follower of Christ and lived every day promoting love, compassion, and duty. Born in 1943 in Debre Birhan, Ethiopia, Tsehay was raised in a strong family, survived many hardships, and was even imprisoned for her faith in Christ. In 1996, she came to Canada to support and raise her grandchildren after their father’s untimely death. During her time in Kitchener-Waterloo, Tsehay became a pillar in the Ethiopian community and embodied what it means to love selflessly in all aspects.
Tsehay was preceded in death by her father, Haile Meskel, her mother, Astede and her son Melaku. She is survived by her ex-husband Demeke, and their five children, Meskerem, Iyasu, Samuel, Tsega and Fasil and her sisters Mulu Emebate, Nigiste, Lakech, and Saba along with dozens of cousins, nephews, and nieces. Her grandchildren Bemnet, Sarah, Bezauit, Roman, Bamlach, Viza, Yonatan, Barcote, and Aymanda will miss her dearly.
Tsehay’s family will receive relatives and friends from 1 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Those wishing to attend Tsehay’s visitation must RSVP through the funeral home website or by calling 519-749-8467. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, 15 minutes will be given to share your condolences and guests are required to wear a face mask.
A private funeral service will take place with private interment at Williamsburg Cemetery. Guests are welcome to view the service at www.henrywalser.com/live-streaming at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2020. There will be approximately a half hour break between the end of service and the start of the livestream at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, in-memory donations can be made to the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation.
