TRISKLE Gregory Francis 2020

TRISKLE, Gregory Francis
May 7, 1926-February 17, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gregory Triskle. Greg passed away at Pinecrest Home for the Aged on February 17, 2020 at the age of 93. He was born in Rainy River, Ontario on May 7, 1926, where he acquired his love of the lands and waters and his ethic of hard work and helping others.
Greg was predeceased by his parents Mary and Frank Triskle, his brothers Dave and Henry and his beloved wife, Ilse. Dad missed Mom dearly since she passed away in 2008. He is survived by his two sons Bill (Cecilia) Triskle, Donald Triskle, and only daughter Karen (Wayne) Cederwall. Greg is survived by his dear brother Floyd (Pauly) Triskle and family along with many close friends. He will be missed by his sister in-law Lisa von Radziminsky and the Germany relatives. Dad was fortunate to have visited Mom’s homeland when they were younger, and shared some fun Canadian fishing times when they came here to visit.
Greg is also survived by his grandchildren: Amanda and Jennifer (Mouda); Theresa (Jeff), Trevor, Travis, Tricia, Scottie, Carolyn, Katherine, Victoria, Tanner; and Ashley, Gregory and Jeffrey. There are also many great grandchildren. He was very proud of them. Spending time with his family fishing, hunting, berry-picking and making trails brought Grandpa Greg much joy over the years. Over the years their visits, home-made cards and especially their hugs warmed his heart and brought a smile to his face.
Greg started his life of hard work early. He grew up in the days where you walked over five miles to school. He started logging at the age of 13 using a swede saw to help support his family. His parents and grandparents were very proud of him when he enlisted in the army and completed training. Fortunately the war ended and he did not have to go away to war. He met and married the love of his life Ilse von Radziminsky when he was a guide in Sioux Narrows, Ontario. They were married on November 9 for 54 years before she passed away. He worked at various jobs over the years as a miner, trapper, guide, and logger. Dad loved the independence of being a woodcutter and being his own boss. He enjoyed being able to fix any type of machinery and help others, if needed. He was a very hard worker who provided well for his family. He loved to be out on the land hunting and fishing and talking about the Metis ancestors. He also served as a Metis community counselor in the past.
We would like to thank Dr. S. Wiebe, M. Limerick NP, Pastor R. Wittmeier and the nurses and staff at unit 4 Pinecrest who were so very good to dad and made his last three years there, as comfortable as possible. We would also like to thank Dr. Beveridge and Dr. Vaudry for their professional care in his earlier years.
In lieu of flowers, donations to help others can be made to It’s a Dog’s Life, or the Kenora Fellowship Center, or a favorite charity.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday February 24, 2020 at 12 noon from Alcock Funeral Home in Keewatin. Interment of cremated remains at a later date.
