Trail’s Obituary
SMITH, Trail Dugal – 101, passed away peacefully at Bayside Home with family by his side on Monday, August 3, 2020. Born in Stoney Island, Shelburne County on April 11, 1919, he was a son of the late Johnny and Ida (Chase) Smith. Trail was the last surviving member of his immediate family, the youngest, along with his twin Margaret of a family of thirteen. He worked most of his life in the fishing industry. He was in the Army in Halifax during the war providing Harbour Defense. Trail also did some boxing during the war and a short time afterwards. He worked on lake boats in Ontario for several years providing for his family. Selling cars for a dealership in Liverpool was a part time interest as well, just part of his working career but retired as a fisherman. Some of his hobbies were bowling, hunting, pool and cribbage. He and Robey won many games and have the championship trophy to prove it. Trail was a member of the Centreville Baptist Church and a member of the Legion Branch 148, Clarks Harbour. He walked in the Terry Fox Run for many years the last time being ninety years old, having raised a lot of money for that charity. He leaves to mourn his three sons; John (Sharyn), Victor (Michele), Wayne (Holly), stepson David (Susan), grandchildren; Timmy (Sharon), Cory (Sheryl), Shane (Lexine), Leanne (George), Denise and Travis (Jennifer), great-grandchildren; Brandon, Jessica, Megan, Madison, Ben, Sophie, Danielle, Peter, Emily and Isabelle along with many other grandchildren. Besides his parents he was predeceased by wives Doris (Dorey), Cecelia (Brown) and Ina (Langille). Special thanks to the nurses, caregivers and staff at Bayside Home in Barrington, and to the many visitors who came in to brighten his day. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. A private service will be held on Saturday August 8 th @ 2:00 pm with Cecil O’Donnell officiating. Donations in Trail’s name can be made to a charity of choice. The service will have a live feed for those unable to attend due to the COVID- 19 restrictions. On-Line condolences may be left for the family at www.huskilson.net
