Obituary
Tillie Lena Barrett, late of Radville, SK passed away April 6, 2020 at the age of 89 years.
Tillie was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Dorothy Becker; her husband Donald Barrett (2005); daughter, Dawn; sister Lily Turner; brothers: Floyd, Charlie, Frank and Fred Becker; grandsons Russell Barrett (1996) and Jesse Ross (1994).
Mom will be lovingly remembered by her 8 children: Wendy (Ivan) Haddad, Bradley (Sherry) Barrett, Harvey Barrett, Dory Lake, Terry Anderson, Genie (Garnet) Van De Sype, and Sue (Kerry) Nimegeers; 20 grandchildren: Vance, Kristie, Travis, Megan, Jennifer, Rick, Cody, Brady, Erika, Erin, Adam, Connor, Lane, Ayla, Gregg, Jennifer, Michael, Tara, Niki and Drew; 24 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Jean Oshanek and Florence (Roy) Leflar; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
We lost our Mom on April 6, 2020 and Heaven gained a faithful soul.
Tillie Lena Becker was born October 9, 1930 to Jake and Dorothy Becker, the 2nd daughter and 5th child out of 8. She grew up in a loving, God fearing home and was close to all her brothers and sisters until her last day. She was predeceased by all her brothers: Fred, Frank, Charlie, and Floyd and by 1 sister Lily. Left to mourn her are 2 sisters, Jean Oshanek and Florence (Roy) Leflar, both from High River, AB.
At 18 mom worked in Weyburn, SK at the telephone office, she would ride the train into work. She met her true love and got married in 1950, just 20 years old, to Donald George Barrett. She was a faithful wife and followed Dad while he worked rigs, moving from place to place. They lived in Beaverlodge for 7 years with the first 7 children and then moved back to Radville in 1962 where they added 1 more to the family and stayed the rest of their days there except for 2 years (1990-1992) when they moved to Granum, AB to try out retirement.
Mom was a faithful wife, a loving mother, a supportive sister and an encouraging friend. She loved to do for others and selflessly gave of herself. She was a true home-maker loving to sew, bake and take care of her family – from 8 children, an ailing father and older friends, sometimes all at the same time. We have so many memories of many people gathering around the dining room table and spread out into the living room – loads of food and much, much laughter. memories of a house full of people, spread out on every floor surface to sleep, but there was always room for one more. We didn’t have much unless you counted friends and fellowship and love, then we counted ourselves as millionaires.
We take comfort from the commitment Mom made to God in 1962, she loved the Perfect Way of God and she kept that commitment until her last breath and God was her strength until the very end.
A Graveside Service for Tillie will be held on Friday, August 21, 2020 at 1:00 pm from Laurier Cemetery, Radville, SK. A luncheon will follow at the Radville Community Centre.
