Obituary of Thomas Michael Farrell
With heavy, saddened hearts we announce the passing of Thomas “Tom” Farrell on Monday, March 30th, 2020 at the Chatham-Kent Hospice, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Zone Township, 78 years ago to the late Alfred & Violet Farrell. Beloved husband of Charlene (Bechard) for almost 53 years. Loving father and father-in-law of Tim & Paula Farrell, and Candice & Joe Boothe. Special and very proud Grampa to Roree Farrell, Dylin Boothe & the late Angelica Boothe. Dear brother and brother-in-law to John & Frances Farrell, Jim & Elaine Farrell, and Doreen Charron. Pre-deceased by a brother Charles, sisters Shirley (Blake) Lunn, Rosemary (Francis) Nemeth, and an infant sister Sharon. He will be sadly missed by many in-laws of the Bechard family, also many nieces & nephews, and lifelong friends.
Tom farmed all his life until retiring in 2012. For 16 years that included his strawberry patch, where he took great pride in growing a good quality product and pleasing his customers. After retirement he took up gardening in a big way including his giant pumpkins and growing enough produce to supply the neighbourhood. In his spare time he loved to compete in log sawing competitions, hunt, fish, watch baseball (Go Blue Jays), shoot league darts, drive his classic old cars, and mostly talk to anyone and everyone, who would listen to one of his many stories.
He was a dedicated member of St. Paul’s Church, and the Thamesville Knights of Columbus #7251 where he served as Grand Knight. Also a 4th Degree member of #867 Chatham.
We would like to thank Cheryl of the Erie St. Clair LHIN, the Chatham-Kent VON (especially Sue, Leah, & Jon Ann) and the Chatham-Kent Hospice for all their kind and compassionate care and support throughout Tom’s long and courageous battle with cancer.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be a Private Family Graveside Service held at St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Those wishing to leave an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Chatham-Kent Hospice or the Chatham-Kent VON. Online condolences and donations may be left at www.badderfuneralhome.com.
