Thomas “Tom” Gordon Taylor
1940-2020
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of
Thomas “Tom” Gordon Taylor – age 80, of Kentville,
Nova Scotia. He passed away peacefully at Valley Regional Hospital on
Friday, September 18th, 2020. Tom was the oldest son of the late
Laurabel (Bigelow) Taylor and the late Gordon Taylor. Born in
Kentville, NS on July 12, 1940, he was raised in the family farmhouse
in Chipman Corner, NS, along with his three siblings. He graduated
high school from Kings County Academy and during his high school
years, Tom joined the Air Force Reserve spending summers in Northern
Ontario, Newfoundland and Baden Germany. He furthered his education at
Acadia University, graduating with a Certificate in Applied Sciences,
followed by a Civil Engineering degree from the Nova Scotia Technical
College (NSTC), Halifax. Following his education, Tom worked
for many years with V.C. Woodworth Ltd., and then started his own
company T.G. Taylor Enterprises. The remainder of Tom’s
career brought him back to his alma mater, Acadia University, where he
retired as Director of Physical Plant. Throughout his engineering
career his accomplishments included the Project Management of the
Athletic Complex at Acadia, in addition to many commercial buildings,
schools across the province and residential homes. One of
Tom’s treasured projects was the building of the second log
cabin at Pineo Beach. He also had a deep passion for hunting, fishing
and trapping with many expeditions and countless trips with his close
friends. Tom is survived by his wife, Jeanne (Farquhar) Taylor; his
son, Todd, Ottawa; his daughters, Jane (Tim) Manning, Greenwich and
Tina (Michael) Sanford, Halifax; grandchildren, Dylan, Samantha,
Brooke, Addison, and Claire; daughter-in-law, Dianne Taylor. Tom was
predeceased by his oldest son, Tim, in 2018. Tom is also survived by
brothers, Pat (Carol) Taylor; half-brother, Jim (Tammy) Taylor and
half-sister, Susan (Bill) Bishop; as well as his step-children, Sean
(Colette) Ennis, Lisa Ennis, Scott (Sally) Ennis and Erica (Sean)
Easton; step-grandchildren, Morgan, Gavin, Hayden, Monica, Ethan,
Kaitlyn, Luke and Drew; as well as many nieces and nephews. Tom was
also predeceased by his sister, Halle; brother, Robert and stepmother,
Barbara (White) Taylor. Cremation has taken place and there will be no
visitation upon request. A ceremony celebrating Tom’s life
will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to either
the Canadian Liver Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society can be
made in Tom’s name. The family wishes to thank Dr. Todd and the staff
at VRH for their care and compassion during Tom’s final
days. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral
