The DAGG family would like to extend the warmest and most heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff of Manitoulin Centennial Manor in Little Current. The level of care and compassion shown, not only to Mom but also towards our entire family as we gathered to say goodbye, was second to none.
Mom worked for many years as the cook at Pacey’s. She had so many friends there and enjoyed her time very much. Mom’s love of cooking was evident to all, starting with her own children. Whether it was ‘feeding the masses’ in her own home, at Pacey’s or at the Espanola Legion, Mom’s quiet determination and skillset could be counted upon to do more than her share in the kitchen.
Mom was a Veteran of World War II having served in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps: No. 1 Platoon, “A” Company, No. 3 C.W.A.C (B.T.C). She left her family and home in Newfoundland and immigrated to Canada to join the Canadian fight. During her service to Canada she met our Father and the rest, as they say, is history. The Royal Canadian Legion and Veterans Affairs Canada has demonstrated a great deal of respect to our Mother, reviving in her the pride of service that she so rightly deserved. Our family very much appreciates these efforts.
Special thanks as well to the Wendy Ashton for the compassion and assistance given to our Mother and our family while Mom struggled to understand what was happening to her. Although Mom’s brain may have been impacted by dementia, her heart remained full of love for all she encountered. If you were ever lucky enough to receive a hug from Mom, you would have felt that love and would know that she meant it.
Mom was a long-time member of the congregation of St. George’s Anglican Church in Espanola. Her children attended as well. A lifetime of watching such a strong woman of faith brings a great deal of comfort to her children who are left here after her physical departure. We are all so very happy that our Dad and our departed Siblings are getting one of Mom’s hugs. They have patiently waited for her while she was here lovingly teaching the rest of us. We are confident that they will keep her safe for us until we meet again.

  1. Sending big hugs to all the Dagg family as you grieve the loss of your Rock! She did give the best hugs and I will never forget the hugs I received from your beautiful mother. She was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her. She is safe in the arms of her angels who have gone before. My deepest condolences to all of you! Marian Wood
