Obituary
It is with sadness that the family of Teresa Helene Murphy, announce her peaceful passing on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at the age of 94 years. Teresa is survived by her children and grandchildren: Colleen (Jerome) Konecsni – daughters Karys (Greg), Toni (Brent), and Katherine (Renzo); Dorothy Murphy – daughters Kennedy (Scott), Carson (Jayson) and Delaney; Jim Murphy (Patty) – daughter Rori; daughter-in-law Maria Dewendt; Marilyn Murphy (Bob Novecosky) and Shirley (Bob) McMahon – sons Patrick (Chantal) and Liam (Tori) along with her ten precious great-grandchildren. Teresa was predeceased by her son Patrick (1977), her husband James (1999) and her son Timothy (2019).
Teresa’s birth took place at the family farm in Arelee, SK on August 21, 1926, the youngest of four children born to Michael and Mary McAvoy. She attended elementary and high school in the Arelee district and lived for a brief period in Ontario before settling in the Sutherland area of Saskatoon. It was there she met and married her husband James, and where they raised their family of seven children.
Teresa’s life was enriched by her various creative talents – knitting, quilting, hardanger embroidery and painting. She was an avid armchair sportswoman enjoying many hours of golf and curling. Teresa and her husband James cultivated a deep love of northern Saskatchewan and relished gathering with family and friends at their cabin at Dore Lake. Teresa took advantage of any opportunity to travel in her lifetime but a special highlight was her trip to Ireland.
Teresa will be remembered by all who knew her as a kind and gentle woman of faith with a disarming sense of humour. Her greatest legacy to her children was teaching them the importance of family, loving them unconditionally and respecting them as the individuals they became. Her generosity of spirit was also extended to her many nieces and nephews, her circle of friends and those who attended to her in her care home.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Warm and Cozy for their supportive care and attention toward our Mother Teresa during the final years of her life.
