Taylor, Joyce
Passed away at the Hanover Care Centre on Thursday, May 7th, 2020 in her 92nd year. Catherine “Joyce” Taylor was a kind, caring, nurturing, truly beautiful person who always thought of others first. She lived her life by “The Golden Rule”. She loved her family unconditionally and was exceptional with children who could always bring a smile to her face.
Joyce was born in Brantford, Ontario and moved to Durham, which was truly her “Home Town” at a young age. Joyce attended both public and secondary school in Durham. She and Ross met in High School and were married in October of 1948. They lived on College Street together for 60 years where they raised their five children and created many happy memories. Joyce’s vocation was always “Caregiver” as she not only raised her own children, helped with her grandchildren, and also looked after many other children from her home day care over the years. When Ross passed away suddenly she continued on there alone until 2017. This period was devastating to Joyce as she had never really lived on her own. Declining health necessitated a move from her home to the Village in Hanover and lastly to the Hanover Care Centre for a brief time.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband Ross in 2008. She was a loving mother to Susan and her husband Dave Campbell of Hanover, Doug Taylor, and Cathy and her husband Don Lantz of Holstein. Cherished grandmother of Wendy Wegmann and her husband Mark, Ryan Campbell and his wife Elisha, Justin Campbell and his fiancée Stephanie Churchill, Tyler Lantz and his wife Heidi, Brady Lantz and his wife Shannon, and Jenna Linley and her husband John. Great-grandmother of William and Myles Wegmann, Desmond, Eleanor and Madeline Campbell, Emerson and Cooper Lantz, Carter and Ryleigh Lantz, and Jude and Beau Linley. Predeceased by her sons Peter and Bill, her mother Reta Phillips, brother Howard Phillips, brothers-in-law Sandy Taylor, Russell Taylor and Leonard Green, and sisters-in-law Jean Taylor, and Dorothy and her husband Gordon McGillivray. Survived by brother-in-law Bev Taylor and his wife Marion and sisters-in-law Betty Green and Kathy Phillips.
Joyce enjoyed her family, friends, camping at the Durham Conservation area, knitting, sewing, retail therapy and a good dose of nonsense when her wonderful sense of humour surfaced. This beautiful gentle soul will be missed by all.
Celebration of Life::
There will be a private family service at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham with cremation to follow. A public graveside service at Durham Cemetery will be held at a later date when it is safe to do so.
