Tammy’s birth was anticipated with much joy. She already had a big brother, Robbie, so a baby girl was in my fervent hopes and prayers. She surprised us with the speed of her arrival, including the doctor, who just couldn’t make it in time. The very efficient Scottish former midwife placed her in my arms and I saw how perfect she was. I was so happy.
She was a good kid, a little on the quiet side in those early years, but as we all soon saw, Tammy’s hurried arrival didn’t change as the years went by. Growing up and following her own agenda and timeline was very much a part of her. She struck out on her own much sooner than any parent would want and lived her life as a free spirit.
A serious car accident nearly took her life at nineteen and began her struggle with managing the pain she was left with.
The west coast beckoned and it was here that a relationship and the birth of her daughter, Cassandra, appeared to stabilize her restlessness for awhile. We all hoped for happiness and stability to last.
In the end her nomadic impulses drove her decisions ,but..after a few years of upheaval she found what she said was “her place”. She seemed happy and settled.
That’s why her passing now is so very sad for all of us who loved her. We’ll miss that deep chortle when she laughed and her wicked sense of humour. I’ll miss the phone calls, “Hey Mom, how do you make those gingerbread cookies”?
Our Dear Tammy,
