Obituary for Sylvia Hanley
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvia Hanley (Hill), the oldest daughter of the late Joe and Annie Hill. She was born March 14, 1937 in Halifax, Yorkshire, England. Sylvia was married to her soul mate, Dennis Hanley and moved to Canada in 1965 to start a new life. Predeceased by her husband, Sylvia chose to stay behind and raise her three children on her own in Canada.
Sylvia was one of the oldest siblings and will be deeply missed by her brothers and sisters, Roy, the late Melvin, June, Barry, Roland, Marjorie, Barbara, Harold and Joe. Sylvia developed a special bond with her younger sister, Barbara during her yearly visits for over 50 years.
Devoted Mom, Sylvia will be deeply missed by Paul (Carol), Steven (Dee), and Susan (David). Sylvia was actively involved with her grandchildren, Shannon, Bonnie, Brett, Jordan, David, and Shane, and great grandchild, Catherine.
Sylvia would travel to England numerous times over the years to visit with her family. She would also enjoy the warmth in Florida during the winter months with her companion of many years, the late Bill Jaffrey.
This year has been a difficult year for everyone with Covid and Sylvia did not have the strength to fight it on her own. On behalf of the family, we want to extend our thanks to the staff at St Joseph’s Villa who gave great care and comfort to her when close family could not visit her due to these difficult times.
Due to the Covid-19 lock down, cremation has been arranged. A private memorial gathering among close family will be held in the near future.
