Surjit Singh Bains 2020

Surjit Singh Bains passed away peacefully at home on December 23rd, 2020 at the age of 77. He was born in Nangal Kalan, India, went to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in 1956, England in 1960, and has been in Calgary since 1975. Surjit worked for Lucerne Foods Bread Plant (Canada Safeway) for 23 years as a Supervisor where he provided many newcomers employment opportunities for them to also establish roots in Calgary. Earning the nickname “Boss” whom many affectionately refer to him as to this day. Surjit was a warm, hardworking, witty man who was always willing to help others. He loved to cook and enjoyed the company of family and friends. Surjit spent his retirement years volunteering in the kitchen at the Dashmesh Culture Centre and daily long walks. Surjit is survived by his wife Jasbir, daughters Rita and Daisy, son Paul (Ramneet), and grandchildren Madison, Saiyaa, and Neale. He is predeceased by his parents Sardar Mehar Singh and Sardarni Pritam Kaur, sister Mohinder Kaur and brother Baldev Singh, survived by brothers Hardev Singh and Ranjit Singh. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at Country Hills Crematorium (11995 16th Street NE, Calgary) on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 1:00pm. Due to COVID restrictions capacity is limited to 10 people. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own rumals.
