Obituary
NISKA, Stewart H.
August 23, 1950 – June 18, 2020
Stewart was born in Outlook, SK and grew up on the family farm near Green Valley. He was predeceased by his parents Hjalmer and Helen and his nephew Russell Niska and numerous relatives. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Pauline; his children Amy (Greg), Lily and Zoe; Corey (Shanna), Cameron; Miguel (Tracy) Isabella, Carly. His memory will be cherished by his siblings Bernie (Judy); Ed (Laurie); Marlene (Brad); his in-laws Germaine (Bill), Max (Heather), Marie (Dave), Beatrice (Tom) and numerous nieces and nephews. A talented handyman who turned his talents into his first business Special T Repair, he later owned a Taco Time franchise, CD Video and 49 cent video stores. These last several years Stu loved his work at the Co-Op Home Centre where he excelled at sharing his building expertise with customers. Stu’s friendly gentle manner made people comfortable and confident to attempt any building project. Many great friendships were made while working at the Co-Op. Stu was a master at all building skills. He could restore a heritage property as easily as he could re shingle a roof or plumb a bathroom. His knowledge was shared with his children and relatives. Those skills were given freely and kindly to us all and will be forever treasured. Stu was the proud owner of a 55 Monarch (Grandpa’s car), 69 GTO, and a brand new factory ordered Chevy van. Stu always loved his cars. His retirement project was to restore his favourite 57 Chevy truck that had once belonged to his Dad. He spent many enjoyable hours honing his mechanical skills on that 57 Chevy. Stu was a family man, who loved time spent with his kids and grandkids who called him “Papa”. He enjoyed visits with extended family and old friends. He liked to travel, especially if it was a road trip where he could admire the scenery along the way. In these later years he was so happy to travel to Maui to see his little sister Marlene. Always a patient quiet man who often sat back to let others do the talking, Stu had a keen sense of humour and great people skills. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses on the surgical ward at RUH for the excellent care and compassion they provided to Stu in these final weeks. Memorial donations to the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of Canada are appreciated. Arrangements in care of Aimé Laventure – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
