Obituary of Steve George Antal
Our dad, Steve Antal, passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife Helen, of 75 years, on Christmas morning. He was 100 years old.
Steve was born on August 3, 1920 in Hungary and immigrated to Port Colborne at the age of 9. He served in the army in WW II as a Bombardier. After the war, he worked most of his life at Sunbeam Shoe Factory, where he helped form the union and became union president. Steve loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was a very competitive fellow, enjoying countless hours of cribbage and poker and was ranked as one of the top 5 pin bowlers in the peninsula.
He was a kind, caring gentleman and touched the hearts of all that knew him.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Helen, their 3 children Tom (Julieann), Barb (Steve) and Diane (Mike), his 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place with arrangements entrusted to the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne.
A private family interment will be held at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery at a later time. Those wishing to pay tribute to Steve are encouraged to hug the ones you love. If you would like to know more about Steve’s story – google “ The Unbelievably True Life of Steve Antal” at niagarathisweek.com

  1. Deepest condolences to your family. I remember Steve from my late Uncle, Steve Simai & my late parents Joe & Betty Swartz. My mother also worked at the shoe factory for a few years and came to Port Colborne when she was 9. My Dad was a milkman for CrystalDairy I sure do miss the days when I was younger, my uncle Steve would come over & play the violin. Not sure if anyone remembers my parents & uncle, but just wanted to say that I have met Steve Antal many times. He was very fortunate to have lived a long life
