Obituary
CHECKWITCH – Stephen (Steve) Mario Checkwitch, beloved father and granddad passed away peacefully in the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on August 23, 2020 at the age of 88 years. Steve was born in 1932 to parents Kay and Mac Checkwitch in Winnipeg Manitoba. He graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1953 with a science degree specializing in meteorology and had a very successful 30+ year career as a meteorologist with Environment Canada. Steve leaves to mourn, his daughter Cheryl (Dave); sons Kerry (Anne) and Brent (Joanne); five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Michael, Christopher, Adam and Emily; two great grandchildren, Clara and Archie; as well as two brothers Allan (Marge) and Robert (Caroline). He was predeceased by his mother and father. The family thanks Dr. Bailey and the staff at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
