Memorial Donation
Mr. Stephen James Hanlon of Timberlea Nova Scotia passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Friday March 27th 2020 at the age of 65.
Steve was born on Sept 23rd, 1954 in North River Conception Bay, Newfoundand and grew up with 12 siblings in Stephenville, Newfoundland. Steve married the love of his life, Myra Angell on August 21st 1976 and together they had one son, Darren and had 43 wonderful years of marriage.
Steve loved life, but he would tell you that his greatest joys were his work, soccer, a cold glass of rum & coke and his only grandchild, Liam.
Steve worked as a linesman for Newfoundland light and power for 39 years. If you asked him, he didn’t work at all, because if you love what you do, it’s not really work.
Steve was a passionate soccer player and many an opponent was struck with fear when Steve walked on the field because did you even play a game if you walked off without a bump or bruise?
His favorite drink was coke and in his words, it was “a can of delicious” only made better with a shot of rum from the captain and friends will tell you that he walked the plank many a time.
And last but not least, Liam. Steve’s only wish for retirement was to spend his time playing with his grandson who was the apple of his eye. Liam learned many things from his poppy, how to play soccer, hammer a nail and how to play jokes, especially on his Nanny. They were 2 peas in a pod… best friends.
Leaving to mourn are his loving wife Myra, Son Darren ( Kristie), Grandson Liam, Brothers Jerome ( Bev), Walter ( Ruby ), Luke, Sisters Christine ( Raymond ), Charmaine, Camilla, Pauline ( Blaine), Irene ( Warren), Jacinta ( Dave ) and Odelia ( Donny ). Father in law Stan, Mother in law Anne, Brother in law’s Don (Denise), Kirk (Rhonda), Sister in Law Dianne (Tim) and a large circle of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
He will be dearly missed by his fur baby Maggie and fur grandkid Flash.
Predeceased by his parents Walter and Evelyn Hanlon and brothers Bob and Gene.
Special thanks to Dr Laci Williams for all of her compassionate care over the years. Thank you to the team of medical professionals who provided excellent care during his stay at the QEII Health Science Center.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Steve was a huge supporter of the Canadian Blood Services and made over 40 blood donations in his lifetime. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that anyone who wish to honor Steve’s memory, make a donation to your local blood bank or consider making a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society of Canada.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Stephen James Hanlon September 23 1954 March 27 2020..
