SKLAR Coleman August 5 1934 — September 20 2020

SKLAR, Coleman
August 5, 1934 — September 20, 2020
It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Coleman Sklar on September 20, 2020. Coleman was born in Saskatoon, SK to parents Gussie and Jack Sklar. He was predeceased by his loving parents, his dear son Jack, and his brother Morley Sklar. Coleman is survived by his beautiful wife Arleen (Grindle); daughters Dena (Bill) Proznick and Miriam Sklar; grandchildren Gussie, Brendyn and Madison Proznick; sisters Ethel Caplan and Lillian Martin; as well as several wonderful nieces and nephews.
Coleman started working at his family’s business, Cut-Rate Grocery in Saskatoon. He was an entrepreneurial self starter, buying and selling cars, houses and laundromats until his next idea led him to start an indoor miniature golf course – The World of Golf on 8th Street in Saskatoon. From there he developed Rolla-Rama Roller Skating Rink where he entertained thousands of children and counselled at risk youth to help them build better lives. In 1983, he opened the Texas “T’ Nightclub bringing great country rock live entertainment to Saskatoon. Following the death of their dear son, Coleman and Arleen sold the “T” and retired to Scottsdale, AZ and spent a few years enjoying time with his cousins.
Coleman loved playing cards, and he and Arleen spent many hours with Florence and Paul Vinnick, Helen and Al Eros, Betty and Floyd Collins, and Morag and Vic Robertson laughing into the early hours of morning.
Coleman was always willing to lend a hand where needed – donating money for an air conditioner at his synagogue, turkeys for families in need at holiday time, counsel to a troubled youth or friendship to someone who was lonely. He was always a fighter and supporter of the underdog – whether it be a softball team where he contributed his awesome pitching skills or someone who was down on their luck. Coleman loved interesting characters and had a fun and interesting entourage!
Coleman loved and treasured his family above all else. He made sure “I love you” was said and felt. He had intense love and pride for his grandchildren.
The family would like to thank his caseworker Lisa, care worker Donna, and the myriad of other amazing health care professionals who helped to make his life better.
“Keep God in your heart and you will never go wrong”
