Simon-Pierre’s Obituary
HOUDE, Simon-Pierre – It is with great sadness that the family of Simon-Pierre Houde announces his unexpected passing on May 1, 2020, at the age of 24. Simon was born in Quebec, Canada on May 23, 1995, but spent most of his childhood in rural southwest Nova Scotia with his mother Charlotte and little sister Tamikéa. In his teenage years, he attended Shelburne Regional High School. At this time in his life you could often find him skateboarding around the town or at the local youth center. He had many friends, many of whom were older than him, as even at his young age Simon was always an old soul. After high school, he and his girlfriend Kaitlyn embarked on a new adventure, flying across the country to attend university at UBS in Kelowna, BC. While he was pursuing formal learning at the university, his willingness to try new things led to a lot of learning outside of school as well. He had always had a love of fishing, but he learned how to fly fish and tie his own flies so he could better fish the small mountain lakes in his new home. He joined recreational sports leagues and became an avid snowboarder, getting a season pass each year. He was always looking for ways to experience music, whether that was attending live shows with Kaitlyn or having impromptu jam sessions with his roommate Jordan. He also never turned down an opportunity to try a new restaurant or brewery in town, often re-creating recipes at home. In 2017, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Chemistry. After beginning work in a lab, he quickly discovered that lab work was not for him. On a whim, he applied for a position at What the Fungus, a mushroom farm in the Okanagan Valley. He hadn’t planned to stay long, but his bosses did everything they could to keep such a hardworking, reliable, and intelligent member on their team and Simon quickly became part of the family there. Simon had much more he wanted to do in this life, but his friends and family are taking comfort knowing Simon was always himself; he dressed how he wanted to dress, danced how he wanted to dance, and lived how he wanted to live. This was one of his most infectious attributes, as when you were with him you felt that you could be yourself as well. His quirky, loveable, and humble character made everyone around him feel welcome regardless of who you were or how well you knew him. It helped that he knew a little bit about everything, and could engage in any conversation. He has given us a legacy of compassion, humour, and tremendous love. He is remembered lovingly by his girlfriend, Kaitlyn Scott; mother, Charlotte Goulden (Paul Goulden); sister, Tamikéa Baldasso; father, Jean Houde; step-mother, Marie-Andrè Cormier; siblings, Taylor Messenger (Mitchell Messenger), Janna Goulden (Greg Williams), Curtis Goulden (Tahja Newell), Emmanuelle Houde, Penelope Houde, Issac Houde; maternal grandmother, Huguette Roy (Gilbert Berube); paternal grandmother, Louise Houde; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Simon was predeceased by maternal grandfather, Normand Martin; maternal step-grandfather, Bob Parent, and paternal grandfather, Pierre Houde. Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. Memorial donation in Simon memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
